So the headdress is basically done - just one small decorative piece needs to go on the back once it's dry.

I haven't tried it on yet - I tried the base on a couple of weeks ago and it stayed on even without the extra little clips. Now it just needs to hold together while I'm wearing it (hear me baby? Hold together...). Rev and I are going to this classical Chinese garden on Sunday to take photos.

I made a decent amount of headway on the crown this weekend. Still lots to do though. The pain is waiting for the glue to dry before you can do the next thing. I like the first pic, kind of looks like a strange bug... and I always knew that Darth Pez would come in handy for something!

So I got all 18 flower pieces cut out, glued together, and 'embossed' - with a pencil! Whatever works man. I put the braid trim on (the clothes pins are there while the glue dries), but I may have to take if off again if the spokes are not strong enough once all the beads are all on. It may be too heavy on the wire (the thickest I could find in gold). If the spokes fly around once their danglies are on, I'll have to start again with coat hangers and use the gold leafing pen. Wow I love that thing.

The underdress and overdress are now both completely finished. All I have left to do is the headpiece (man....)

I am actually making progress on this - I have to get that headdress done now so I can start practising with it.

I went to see a dance coach on Saturday, and spent an hour with her, and it was excellent. She mainly gave me some tips on how to exaggerate everything so it looks better. Pull the shoulder blades back and down, roll the shoulders, drop the neck backwards, dip the shoulder to the side, bend the hip out, where to put my foot when I kneel down, and how to stand up again more gracefully. Very very helpful. But wow am I ever sore - neck muscles from doing that lean back over and over, right quad from the kneeling, and stomach, probably also from the leaning back.

Left to do:

- tidy up the seams on the white underlayer
- iron and sew on appliqué's on underdress
- make earrings
- make headdress

I found some gold cardboard at Michael's on Saturday, that will be a lot easier to cut out than craft foam. I think I'll be able to emboss the designs into easily with a Sculpey embossing tool I have too.

Edit: I decided to put straps on the underdress, which you can see in one of the photos - it just wouldn't stay up otherwise. I'm not too worried if it shows sometimes.

I finished painting the trim tonight! WOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!

(Funny aside about the paint - I had 14 designs left to paint that I was determined to do tonight. I get my brush, the trim, my paint cup, and then I can't find the paint bottle anywhere! I just used it 2 nights ago, and the paint should have been on the shelf right by the trim and the brush, but I couldn't find it. I was sure one of the cats had decided to make it a toy, so I was crawling around looking under things for about ten minutes, and getting upset at the irony of it - 14 bits left to do, and I'd have to go buy a whole new bottle.... Luckily I looked in a drawer right below the shelf that I was putting other stuff away in last night - the bottle had fallen in.)

I plan to sew the trim on the two side slits tomorrow and then the overdress is totally finished. Once all the trim is on, I'll count how many designs I painted - I think it was about 3-4 minutes per design.

When I was in Dallas I found a bracelet made out of the exact turquoise rings for the necklace, just need to take it apart and restring it.

Next weekend I'm hoping to go buy everything I need to finish:

- silk for FD underdress - I'm thinking 2 white layers and 2 dark turquoise layers
- craft foam for FD headdress
- beads for FD headdress

I got this fabric for $3/yd in LA when we were down there. It seems to be a polyester brocade, nice and lightweight, a bit rough and scratchy like a wool suiting.

Left to do:

- paint remainder of trim
- make headpiece (haven't bought any materials for it yet)
- make underdress (I still need to get about 5 yards each of turquoise and white silk for this)
- sew trim on overdress
- make necklace (still need the gold beads for it)

I did little Windows Movie Maker job on the dance from the movie, and put MIDIval PunditZ's song "Air" to the clip to study for my Masquerade dance entry for this costume:
